Simultaneous world-wide increase in methane levels
en Scientists at MIT have recorded a nearly simultaneous world-wide increase in methane levels.
This is the first increase in ten years, and what baffles science
is that this
data contradicts theories stating man is
the primary source of increase for this greenhouse gas.
It takes about one full year for gases generated in the highly
industrial northern hemisphere to cycle through and reach the
southern hemisphere. However, since all worldwide levels rose
simultaneously throughout the same year, it is now believed
this may be part of a
natural cycle in mother nature -
and not the direct result of man's contributions.

Dem Methan (CH4) wird eine weit stärkere Treibhauswirkung zugeschrieben als dem Kohlenstoffdioxid (CO2).
Das IPCC hat für die zu erwartenden Methan-Konzentrationen im Jahr 2000 eine Ober- und Untergrenze prognostiziert. Die realen Werte liegen deutlich unter den IPCC-Werten.

Der steigende Trend der Methankonzentration hatte bereits ab etwa 1993 abgenommen.
Das IPCC ist minimal davon ausgegangen, daß sich diese abgeschwächte Methanzunahme fortsetzen würde.
Die Maximalannahme des IPCC entspricht einer prognostizierten Rückkehr zu den Methan-Zunahmeraten der 1980er Jahre. Beides ist nicht eingetreten.
Stattdessen stagnieren die Methankonzentrationen seit etwa 1998.

Eine weitere Prognose des IPCC, die nicht eingetroffen ist.
Gute Vorzeichen für die Klimakonferenz in Kopenhagen, wo auf der Grundlage von unbewiesenen Vermutungen weitreichende Eingriffe in die Wirtschaft und Freiheit der ganzen Welt angstrebt werden sollen.
Wann lernt die Welt, daß die IPCC-Prognosen am besten ignoriert werden?

Die weit hinter den Erwartungen zurückbleibenden Methankonzentrationen sind aber auch ein Beleg gegen eine globale Erwärmung.
Nach den Thesen der AGW-Vertreter soll die globale Erwärmung zum Auftauen großer Permafrost-Gebiete besonders in Sibirien führen, deren Boden dann Methan freisetzen soll.
Diese Befürchtung bewahrheitet sich offenbar nicht.
Die mit diesem Mechanismus verbundene "positive Rückkopplung", die die Erwärmung noch verstärken soll, tritt daher nicht ein.

Since methane is a particularly potent greenhouse gas (thought to have about 25 times the warming power of CO2), emissions scenarios which fail to track methane will struggle to well-replicate the total climate forcing, likely erring on the high side-and feeding too much forcing into climate models leads to too much global warming coming out of them.

Auch Wiederkäuer produzieren Methan, sodass gemäss einer japanischen Studie der Konsum von einem Kilo Rind-Fleisch die gleiche Klima-erwärmende Wirkung habe, wie 250 km Fahrt mit dem Auto!
Sollte die nächste Etappe des Klimas eine neue Eis-Zeit sein, wären wir noch froh um ein bisschen Erwärmung dank Methan!
